The owner of a dog which was found living in faeces has been banned from owning animals for 10 years.
Auckland woman Cerise Harris has been sentenced in the Manukau District Court. Her pet dog, Olive Oyl, was found in a skeletal condition with open wounds and tied to a short leash.
She'd been without food, proper shelter and bedding, and was close to death when an SPCA inspector found her.
Olive has now regained 50 per cent of her body weight after being fed on a proper diet.
And she's been adopted into a new home.
