Almost ten walkways around Tauranga remain closed due to slip damage.
Severe storms earlier in April forced the closure of the walkways and council contractors were still working to clear the debris.
Tauranga City Council's parks and recreation manager Mark Smith said after Cyclone Cook some walkways took a beating and were still on the list to be properly cleared.
Minor closures were in place while they were made safe for public use.
"Unfortunately this event had quite a significant impact on our parks and reserves, and we're working through them as quickly as we can.
"Clearing a slip can be a complex and delicate process and in some cases we're going to need to repair tracks and boardwalks.
The impacted walkways included:
- Mauao base track
- Hammond Street Reserve
- Takitimu Drive - below the domain
- Novella Place - Waikareao Estuary
- Tom Muir Drive - Kopurererua Estuary
- Gordon Carmichael Reserve
- Daisy Hardwick Walkway - Waikareao Estuary
- Carlton St - Sherwood Vale walkway
About three quarters of the Mauao base track would reopen within three weeks, weather depending.
All slips affecting walkways on Mauao would be cleared and scouring damage on the track repaired.
An earlier slip on the Pilot Bay side of the mountain will still take at least several weeks to repair.
