South Auckland police are still hunting a dangerous prisoner, Daniel Eliu, aged 24, who escaped from the Otahuhu District Court eight days ago.
Detective Sergeant Steve Mariu says Eliu was to appear on home invasion charges relating to an incident in Hunua last November.
"We would like to warn the public this man is considered very dangerous and should not be approached. If anyone sees him or knows where he is, contact the police immediately," said Detective Sergeant Mariu.
"Eliu may still be in the South Auckland area, and those who may be harbouring Eliu are warned this is an offence and could be charged. However, anonymous information is also welcome." Anyone wanting to contact the team hunting Eliu should ring the Wiri-based South Auckland Crime Squad on 261-1300.
AUCKLAND CITY
On the afternoon of Sunday, September 10, the Barrett Rd Superette in Mt Wellington was robbed at knifepoint.
The sole occupant of the superette was the owner-operator, a middle-aged man of Indian descent.
A man entered the superette and confronted the victim by throwing drink bottles at him and demanding money.
The victim refused to hand over any money. The offender then produced a knife, which he pointed at the victim and continued to demand cash.
A second offender then entered the shop and moved towards the victim, who took a metal bar from under the shop counter and smashed a plate-glass window to attract attention.
The robbers fled with about $200, threatening a woman outside the shop with the knife and pushing over an 11-year-old girl blocking their escape path.
They were seen running up McCracken Rd for about 200m and through an alleyway to Banks Rd.
They got into a grey/silver car parked near the alleyway and drove towards Banks Rd.
The robbers are described as Maori or Pacific Islanders, late teens, wearing dark clothing. One had a limp and the other had a wispy moustache or goatee beard.
Anyone with information should contact Sue Douglas, Newmarket CIU, 529-5633 Ext 94 4722
NORTH SHORE
Detectives hunting two armed robbers are seeking anyone who saw any vehicle, in particular a 1990 silver Mitsubishi Pajero, in the Rimmer Rd, Woodhill Forest, area this week.
The robbers, who robbed a security van outside the Torbay shops on Monday, dumped two empty cash canisters on Rimmer Rd, taking the $90,000 inside them.
Police are seeking sightings of the Pajero 4WD, which has not been recovered, and a red Mitsubishi L300 van used when one of the two robbers held up a white Chubb security van at gunpoint in the carpark of the shops about 11.30 am.
He jumped into the red van driven by another offender. Both wore balaclavas.
The red van was found abandoned in Awaruku Rd shortly afterwards, where the robbers swapped it for the Pajero.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Bush said police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen these two vehicles together.
The Pajero's registration number is WR5347. Both vehicles were stolen on Sunday night from Bellevue Rd, Mt Eden.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Senior Sergeant Bush on 489-4008.
