Four men used three stolen cars when robbing the Greenlane branch of the WestpacTrust Bank, Great South Rd, about 5 pm on Friday, January 26.
Newmarket police have asked for help from the public.
The robbers drove to the bank in a grey Mazda GLX sedan. Two of them smashed in the rear door of the bank with a sledgehammer, entered the building and demanded money from the staff.
The men made off with a large amount of cash and foreign currency. They fled in a red Subaru Impreza sedan that had been parked in nearby Puriri St. The Subaru was driven to Te Kawa St, One Tree Hill.
The men were then seen running down a walkway linking Te Kawa St and Waiohua Rd where they got into another car, a grey Mazda MX6. It was found abandoned in Tuata St, One Tree Hill.
Detective Constable Matthew Welch of the Newmarket police would like to talk to anybody who saw the stolen cars before or after the robbery or anybody who might be able to identify the offenders. He can be contacted on 524 4195.
Credit cards
Credit cards stolen from around Cambridge and other Waikato areas have been used in several Auckland banks to obtain cash.
Senior Constable Jim Beardsley of the Cambridge police would like to hear from anybody who recognises the man in the security camera photograph at right.
He was filmed at the Panmure branch of the Bank of New Zealand about 4 pm on January 16.
Senior Constable Beardsley said some credit cards were stolen from wallets left in vehicles by Cambridge builders. In some cases the cards were taken and cash was untouched.
In one case, Senior Constable Beardsley said, a card taken from a Cambridge work site was used to get cash in Auckland banks within hours of being taken.
Senior Constable Beardsley can be contacted at the Cambridge police station on (07) 827 5531.
Shotgun holdup
The Counties-Manukau robbery squad wants to know the identity of the hooded figure shown in the security camera picture at top.
A reward is being offered for information that might lead to an arrest and conviction. The man was one of three offenders who robbed the Reeves Rd branch of the Bank of New Zealand in Pakuranga about 10.25 am on Wednesday, February 7.
Two of the offenders were wearing balaclavas while the third, described as a Maori or Polynesian, was wearing blue jeans and a grey hooded sweatshirt.
During the holdup a sawn-off shotgun was pointed at staff and customers. The robbers escaped with some cash in a white Mazda Capella, then walked through an alleyway and drove off in another, light-blue vehicle.
Anybody with information should ring the Counties-Manukau robbery squad on 299 9242.
