Musikmakers' season of Bugsy Malone opens on Saturday, starring an all-child cast in the roles of speakeasy gangsters, showgirls, and a little love.
The all singing, all dancing cast of 52 young people aged 10-16, will power their way through the rivalry of Dandy Dan and Fat Sam who have been arch enemies since sliced bread was invented.
Set in 1929 New York City, Bugsy Malone captures a flashy world of would-be hoodlums and dreamers, with the comic book feel of Splurge Guns that shoot silly string, and weapons represented by cream pies to the face.
As Tallulah, the sassy girlfriend of the owner of Fat Sam's Grand Slam Speakeasy, dances and sings her way into our hearts, Dandy Dan is preparing to take Fat Sam and his boys down with a new shipment of Splurge Guns due in at the docks.
Can Bugsy Malone save the day, and will plain Jane, Blousey Brown get her chance to sing in the club?
This thoroughly delightful musical is guaranteed to capture audiences of all ages.
The season of Bugsy Malone runs from May 16-30 at Riverlea Theatre. Bookings at www.iticket.co.nz or phone 0800 800 192. There are plenty of weekend performances and reduced price family tickets.
