A man who burgled a Hamilton dairy early yesterday morning, taking a "large quantity" of cigarettes and tobacco, used a mountain bike as a getaway vehicle.
Security footage showed a Maori man in his late teens or early 20s, entering the Deanwell Rd dairy at 3.30am.
Sergeant Jonathan Clark of the Waikato tactical crime unit said the high quality security camera footage was a great help to investigators.
"The man, who was of medium build, has removed a large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco before making off on a silver-coloured mountain bike."
He said he hoped a member of the public would be able to identify the man through images released.
"If you do know his identity, police want to hear from you.
"Anyone with any information can contact me at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200," he said.
"Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
"At the same time we would like to encourage other small business owners to review their security and to upgrade it where necessary. If you consider it an investment in protecting your stock and your staff it is something that could help prevent crime and also give you peace of mind."
