The Latitude Homes and David Watt Autos Primary, Intermediate and Secondary Tournament was held yesterday at the Hamilton City Netball Centre.
The weather was fine most of the day except the last couple of rounds when there was a heavy and consistent downpour of rain. This did not deter the players, some of whom were playing in a final.
Eighty teams entered the tournament across a range of ages from primary to secondary school. Eight teams entered in Year 5, Year 7 and Year 10 age groups and these were broken into two pools of four.
Finals were held for each age group between the winners of pool 1 and pool 2. Twenty four teams entered into Year 6 and these were broken into four pools of six.
There were two finals played between the winners of pool 1 and pool 2 and the winners of pool 3 and pool 4.
Twelve teams entered Year 8 and Year 9 and they were broken into two pools playing a round robin tournament to determine the winners in each pool. In the combined Year 7 and 8 and in Senior Secondary there were four teams entered and they too played round robin tournaments.
All games were 10 minutes each way with two minutes half time. Each team was required to provide their own non-playing umpire until finals when independent umpires were appointed. A win was worth 3 points, a draw 2 points and a loss 3 goals or less 1 point.
A good day was held by all with a large number of supporters and spectators present.
Val Temm, president of Hamilton City Netball Centre, felt that tournament was a good opportunity for non rep teams and players to experience a tournament. She also acknowledged the number of volunteers assisting with the event.
