More than $28,000 of chattels, poultry and animals was sold on Saturday April 22 when the A&P Association and Dannevirke Host Lions held their Small Holders Auction.
The crowd was down a little on 2016 but more than $600 was collected in gold coin donations at the gate.
There were three lines of chattels (150 lots) - more this year - but poultry was slightly down and livestock was minimal. Two working dogs found new homes, one of the four horses sold and five ewe lambs reached $87 per head.
The old adage that "one person's junk is another man's treasure" proved true, with lots of vendors taking the opportunity to clear out their sheds.
There were carpets and cupboards, posts and fencing wire, furniture, tools of every description, a horse float, tractor, golf clubs, a bird cage, barbecue, a gig, numerous shrubs, a canoe, several chainsaws, saddles and other equestrian gear, farm machinery, crockery and toys.
The auctioneers, who gave their time freely, worked from 10.30 am until 12.30pm selling the items and by 2pm the A&P Showgrounds oval was empty. Organisers say the auction was a success, vendors and buyers left happy and the crowd enjoyed the action on a sunny, warm day.
