Getting there: A smooth ride from Sydney International Airport, the Four Seasons is on George St, which is ordinarily one of the city's busiest, but it's completely shut for roadworks barring taxi access.
Check-in experience: Smooth and efficient - and what great air-conditioning in the expansive and tastefully decorated lobby.
Room: A Deluxe City room, elegantly decorated and well laid-out. One of the most functional rooms I've stayed in.
Price: Depending on the time of year, from $299 per night.
What's so good about this place? It's got everything a hotel needs: comfortable and stylish rooms, fabulous outdoor pool, expansive fitness centre, spa and hairdressers and accommodating staff, plus it's close to many of Sydney's major attractions. I was in town for the Sydney Festival and the location was excellent.
And the bad? It's a sharp drop back to reality when you return home.
What's in the neighbourhood? It's right next to the historic Rocks district, a two-minute walk to Circular Quay and a 10-15 minute walk to attractions such as Darling Harbour, the Queen Victoria Building and CBD shopping precinct, the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens.
Toiletries: Nice ones that didn't smell cheap or artificial.
Food and drink: One of the most varied and generous breakfast selections I've seen, served in the hotel restaurant, which also opens for lunch and dinner. You sit surrounded by Australian paintings and ceramics and, on weekends, listen to a pianist tickling the ivories of the grand in the lobby. There's also Grain on site with a 200+ list of whiskies, as well as craft beers and bespoke cocktails.
The bed: Super-comfortable.
A room with a view? Sadly, no but some people like a cityscape. If you want a closer view at the hotel's art collection, there are twice-daily tours.
Bathroom: It even included a deep bath - they're starting to become a rarity in some hotels - and loads of fluffy towels.
Free Wi-Fi? Yes.
Noise: Didn't hear a thing despite the major roadworks going on outside.
Room service: An extensive room service menu and service is prompt.
Value for money: Given the level of luxury, yes.
Exercise facilities: Pool and a well-equipped and roomy gymnasium. If you don't want to swim, you can lounge in one of the deckchairs.
