Now the elections and Christmas are behind us, I'm really looking forward to another year representing you on your Council.
I'm delighted to continue as chair of the Finance and Performance committee and will continue to make sure we get the best value from your ratepayer dollars. Our revenue is over $130m and we have several projects underway with budgets over $5m including the Library of the Future, the He Ara Kotahi Massey and Linton cycle and pedestrian bridge, and the Central Energy Trust Wildbase Recovery Centre.
My focus remains on making sure all of our projects are delivered on time and on budget.
I've retained the housing portfolio and this year we'll be furthering our plans to redevelop the 48 council units in Papaoeia Place. You may also have noticed that in the private sector a lot of new houses are being built around the city as we're currently experiencing a period of growth.
We need to make sure we have good infrastructure in place to cope with this development and, this is an issue I'll be pushing this year.
We're currently working on the Annual Budget for 2017/18. Our Annual Budgets are based on our 10 Year Plan which sets out what Council will do for residents over a 10-year period. It's designed to bring our city's vision and goals to life, and covers the services we provide, the upkeep of the city's infrastructure and new projects that'll make our city an even better place to live.
We'll be going out for public consultation on the Annual Budget in a couple of months' time and I encourage you to make a submission.
I look forward to serving you throughout 2017. It's going to be a really busy and productive year.
