A BMW car was engulfed in flames when it caught fire in Greymouth this morning.
Greymouth Fire Brigade senior station officer Colin Thomas said the fire on Ngarimu St was well underway when they arrived just before 8am.
"It was involved. It had a plastic tank and as the plastic tank burns it creates more holes and more petrol comes out."
Mr Thomas was not sure what had caused the fire.
Greymouth police acting Sergeant Paul Gurney said it did not appear suspicious.
Last night, emergency services were also called to a single car crash along the Kaiata straight.
Mr Gurney said the two occupants were taken to hospital. The crash occurred just before 10pm, damaging a power pole.
