Three men were involved in a violent attack on a man in a walkway overnight.
A 42-year-old Tauranga man was in hospital with serious head injuries after the assault.
Police said the assault happened in Masonic Park, on a walkway between The Strand and Willow Street, Tauranga.
The injured man was in a stable condition this afternoon.
Police hoped to hear from anybody who saw the altercation.
Three men left the area in a late model, silver Ford Falcon seen driving away from the park area and turning left in Willow Street.
The three were described as Pakeha (European) in their early 20s.
"All three were wearing dark coloured clothing. One was wearing a dark coloured beanie and one was wearing a red coloured jacket," police said.
