At least two flights have been cancelled as a result of the icy blast down South, while others were delayed this morning due to black ice on the runway in Queenstown.
A spokeswoman for Air New Zealand said weather conditions in Queenstown today had forced the cancellation of one Air New Zealand flight from Christchurch to Queenstown, and as a result the return service going the other way was also cancelled.
"There have also been some delays to flights into and out of both Queenstown and Invercargill today as a result of weather," she said.
Customers were advised to keep an eye on the arrivals and departures page on Air New Zealand's website for the latest flight information.
A spokesman for Jetstar said there were no current delays or issues to its services because of the weather.
There had been, however, one delayed Jetstar flight into Queenstown this morning because of ice on the runway.
A Queenstown Airport spokeswoman said the black ice had caused a few flights to be delayed, with the first plane landing two hours late at 11.15am.
These delays had caused a backlog, she said.
