A drunk driver who allegedly led police on a short but high speed chase had four children in the car.
The 28-year-old Hawera woman was arrested after two police vehicles chased her when she failed to stop at an alcohol checkpoint on Friday night.
She has been charged with driving with excess breath alcohol, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and ill treatment of four children.
Police said they were shocked to find four children aged 4 to 14 years old in the car.
No one was injured.
The driver blew more than 1000 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The new legal limit is 250.
Sergeant Pat Duffy of the Taranaki Traffic Alcohol Group said the offending was irresponsible.
The woman will appear in court on Monday.
