Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy Mt Ruapehu's slopes for a few more weeks after the season was extended today.
This winter's ideal snow conditions meant Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL), operator of Mt Ruapehu, has extended the season to Labour Weekend.
The season at Whakapapa was originally due to close on 11 October however, now both Turoa and Whakapapa will be open through until October 26.
Simon Dickson, Mt Ruapehu executive manager - commercial said, "We've welcomed the cooler temperatures we've been experiencing this spring as it's brought us a significant amount of high quality snow that we weren't expecting.
"Extensive skiable terrain and a 2.8m snow base means we have some of the best skiing and riding conditions at Whakapapa for a number of years."
"The wide expansive trails, and high quality snow conditions, reinforce the fact that Mt Ruapehu is the perfect Spring skiing destination," he said.
