Two girls and their dog, left stranded and clinging to a tree by an incoming tide on Auckland's North Shore this evening, have been rescued.
The police Eagle helicopter was sent to Little Shoal Bay after police received a call from ambulance around 5.30pm that the girls were in trouble.
The teenagers, and their dog, were located in a tree branch overhanging the shallow bay near Northcote.
Coastguard was also called in, and a rescue boat on another job was diverted to the bay.
Finding the water too shallow, Coastguard launched its dinghy, and managed to get the girls onboard.
They were safely returned to Birkenhead.
It appeared the girls had climbed the tree, the tide had come in, and they were unable to get back to shore, Coastguard said.
