A lift technician has been found dead at the bottom of a lift shaft in Wellington.
The man died in a building owned by property developer Mark Dunajtschick.
He was contacted last night by a business partner after the man died.
"I have known him for about 13 years. Naturally I was shocked and naturally I am very sad for him and of course for his family," Mr Dunajtschick told the Herald this morning.
He said the man worked for Otis and was in the building to service the elevator.
He did not want to comment further out of respect for the man's family.
One News has reported that the man was found dead in a building on Grey Street last night.
Police confirmed they were called to the address at 6.18pm but could not comment further.
The death isn't suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.
WorkSafe NZ is investigating.
