Gotta catch them all.
That was the mission facing the students at St Mary's Diocesan School in Taranaki last Wednesday, when they finished off a day of celebrating "St Mary's Day" with a full school Pokemon competition, with teachers replacing the fictional monsters needing catching.
Divided into teams of four, consisting of students from across the year groups, the girls headed into town to track down their teachers who were hiding in a range of locations.
Once found, the teacher supplied the group with a code word to note down.
Teachers had been allocated a range of point values, with the highest scoring being principal Fiona Green who was hiding in the glockenspiel.
Ms Green says the students all had a great afternoon, using a range of skills.
"While the activity was lots of fun, it also encouraged teamwork, map work and some careful planning.
Students were penalised if they arrived back at school after the deadline, so had to work out if it was worth losing those points in order to go after a high point scoring staff member who might be some distance away."
