Roadworks starting next Monday on the motorway north of Auckland may affect motorists travelling between Oteha Valley Rd and Silverdale, the NZ Transport Agency is warning.
Maintenance on the Northern Motorway will begin on August 29, with parts of the highway being resurfaced and improvements made to line markings.
On Monday the on- and off-ramps to the BP service station and other retail outlets will be closed so they can be resurfaced between 9pm and 5am.
The following week, on the evening of September 5 and 6, the northbound lanes of the motorway will be resurfaced.
One lane will remain open to traffic during the repairs on the night of the 5th but the motorway will be closed to both northbound lanes from 9pm on the 6th until 5am the next day.
The alternative route will be via Dairy Flat Highway and NZTA has asked motorists to follow the detour signs.
The work was weather dependent, if it cannot be carried out on the above dates, it will be carried out the next available night, NZTA said.
Drivers travelling north on State Highway 1 should make sure they have enough fuel to get to the next available service station.
