The 4-year-old boy who died while playing on a playground at his Auckland daycare has been farewelled in India tonight.
A funeral service has been held in India this evening (NZT) for Aldrich Viju.
It has been a week since the little boy killed in what police have described as a "tragic accident'' at the Angels Childcare facility in Takapuna.
Family spokesman Joseph Devasia told the Herald this afternoon Aldrich's parents, mother Gisha Viju and father Viju Vareed, had travelled to India with their 2-year-old daughter Andrea on Tuesday.
The family flew out following a service held in Auckland earlier this week.
Aldrich's body was flown to the country on Wednesday and his funeral was held today.
Devasia said the family had received a lot of support from the Indian High Commission - which paid and made arrangements for the family immediately - as well as political, community leaders and members of the Indian and wider New Zealand communities.
Aldrich will be buried in a family plot, Devasia said.
His parents are due to fly back to New Zealand in the coming months.
