New Orleans jazz is characterised by swing. It's infectious, exhilarating, and often epitomises the soul of New Orleans during the 1920s.
This swinging beat will blast into Rotorua on Sunday, when Auckland band, the New Orleans Joymakers, plays at the Arawa Park Racecourse.
Joyful music in the New Orleans tradition is what this band, founded by Tony Parker, is all about.
Parker has toured Australia and Europe with the Australian-based bands The Spirit of New Orleans and Pam & Lew Hird's New Sydney Stompers, as well as concerts in Melbourne, Perth and Newcastle Australia, and Sacramento USA. At various times he has played with jazz greats, including Wild Bill Davison, Art Hodes and Monty Sunshine.
The Rotorua Jazz Club hosts the evening and welcomes non-members to come along. Junior admission is $2. Doors and cash bar open at 4pm. Delicious hot meals available after 6pm.
