Minions, Batman and Thomas the Tank Engine are just a few of the well-loved toys locals can see in Rotorua Lakes High School's original production this week.
Teacher and director Katherine Beijeman wrote the production Tales from the Toybox, and said it was something everyone could relate to.
Ms Beijeman said she thought the play celebrated that people did not have to give up their childhood early.
The production began with the story of Puff the Magic Dragon, who had been abandoned by his owner, who had found other things to play with-such as Playstation, she said.
It was about the toys trying to decide what they were going to do without the owner to play with them.
"It's a lot of fun and quite funny, so I think everyone will enjoy it."
Year 12 student Amy Nattrass, 16, said she decided to get involved in the show because she took part last time the school did one, and "it was loads of fun".
She said one of the best parts throughout their preparation was when the dances and the music all came together, with hard parts being learning lines and lyrics, and doing Sunday rehearsals.
"I'm really looking forward to it. I remember last time it was a great experience."
Tamaho Stiles, 17, said he had wanted to be involved in more extra-curricular activities since it was his last year at school.
He said the funniest part of getting the show ready was seeing everyone with the make up on for the first time.
Ms Beijeman said there were about 30 students and six staff involved in the production, both on stage and behind the scenes.
"This last week has been intensive."
The production is running from this Wednesday to Friday at the Rotorua Lakes High School auditorium.
The show starts at 7pm each night, costing $12 for an adult and $8 for students aged 5 to 18 years. Children under 5 are free.
Tickets can be bought from reception on school week days between 8am and 4pm, or at the door with cash only.
They are also available from Victoria Grove Costume Hire during opening hours with cash only.
Ms Beijeman said they would like to thank their supporters, Victoria Gove Costume Hire, Nigel from the Animation School, Advocate Printing, Dynamics and the Rotorua Civic Arts Trust.
