A UFC spokesman has shot down reports that the company has been sold for US$4.2 billion dollars (NZ$5.9B).
UFC vice-president of public relations, athlete marketing and development Dave Sholler sent a statement to Yahoo Sports late Tuesday denying the claims.
Sholler's statement said "FloCombat.com's report indicating that the UFC has been sold is false."
"We've communicated that to our staff members tonight via an internal memo."
Sholler would then not answer any questions and UFC president Dana White declined to comment.
FloCombat.com's Jeremy Botter reported that a group led by WWE/IMG would purchase the UFC for $4.2 billion. According to the report, the majority of the money would come from Chinese companies, with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his Kraft Group also reportedly involved.
There have been unconfirmed rumours for several months about the potential sale of the company. If the UFC is sold for $4.2 billion, it would be the largest sports sale in history.
