There are now 70 searchers looking for a hunter missing in the Abel Tasman National Park since Tuesday.
Searchers who stayed in the park overnight have found no trace of Hamish Stothers, 18, and more Search and Rescue staff have been taken into the field by helicopter today.
A second Iroquois helicopter is being used in the search and police were awaiting the arrival of a specialist tracker dog and handler, due to arrive from Christchurch this afternoon.
Mr Strothers called for help on his mobile phone two days ago, saying he had injured his ankle, was lost and had run out of food.
He said he was eating the dog biscuits he had taken with him for his dog.
If Mr Stothers is not found today the search teams will remain in the park overnight.

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
