On Friday, August 8, a group gathered at the Malone Memorial Gates to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Chunuk Bair.
Wreaths were laid at the gates in a small ceremony held at 8am followed by light refreshments at the Stratford RSA clubrooms.
It was during the Battle of Chunuk Bair that one of Stratford's most famous sons, Lieutenant-Colonel William George Malone, commander of the Wellington Infantry Battalion, was killed in action.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
