As birthday parties go, the party held on Saturday to celebrate two years since The Scratching Post opened was certainly a success.
The sausage sizzle saw a steady queue of visitors, although the real appeal of the morning was possibly the number of cute, small and fluffy creatures to cuddle, stroke and admire inside the store.
Madeline Tane (5) says she loved "the small puppy, he licked my hand and was really tiny", while her brother, Connor (7) prefers the cats, "but Baxter wasn't bad for a dog, my cat is bigger than him".
The Scratching Post is a local charity which not only rehomes kittens, but also provides education on responsible pet ownership, financial assistance to help with the cost of de-sexing cats to eligible owners, foster homes for unwanted and abandoned kittens, as well as working as a "pet information area" where information can be shared about lost and found pets.
The "gift and treasure shop" on Broadway helps raise funds for the work that the charity does in the community.
