Frog faces and Daleks featured on cakes up for sale at the annual cake auction held at St Joseph's school as part of its mission day gala.
Auctioneer Peter McDonald had the assembled crowd bidding furiously for the cakes, made by students in their final year at the Stratford school, "with a little help from parents. aunties or friends".
Chocolate was the most popular flavour, with some featuring more than one tier, laden with chocolates and ganache. Banana cake was another popular flavour, with Peter pointing out that both flavours freeze well, "so you can buy now for a big event in the future".
With some cakes selling for $400 or more, the auction raised $4390 in total. "Every cake was made with love and was worth every cent bid on it," says principal Rae Sullivan-Brown, who adds that the whole day was "a great success".
