Two people have been arrested after an armed robbery of a TAB in New Plymouth.
A witness to the robbery at the TAB in Fitzroy told Fairfax they saw an offender "built like a brick s***house" walking down the street.
The TAB was robbed just after midday today, with the man escaping on foot.
Police were reportedly told the robber had a gun. A firearm was later recovered along with an undisclosed sum of cash.
Detective Sergeant Mike Aro told the Herald a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection the TAB robbery and another at a dairy on Barriball St last week.
"At around midday, a person walked into the TAB store and demanded money from the shop attendant, and presented what appeared to be a firearm. The offender left with an undisclosed sum of money and walked to Beach St.
"The offender had covered themselves entirely so no skin was visible. They are described as wearing an orange fluoro safety vest and blue waterproof trousers.
"Police have conducted search warrants at three properties and recovered a firearm, and other items of interest including cash."
The alleged offenders have been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and will appear in the New Plymouth District Court tomorrow.
