Check-in experience: The grand marble entrance to the Langham London is a welcome sight after spending 24 hours in the air to get there. Porters in top hats and tails hold open the doors and sweep your bags through a trap door to the right of the entrance, saving guests any luggage bother right off the bat. Bouquets of pink and white roses constantly provide an ambient scent in the fire-warmed lobby. The staff wear petite pink skirt suits or black trousers with pink ties.
Room: A Grand Langham Club Room, priced from $1150 per night.
What's in the neighbourhood? Oxford Circus is seven minutes' walk down Regent St, while the Chiltern Firehouse restaurant is 10 minutes in the other direction. There's everything in between.
Food and drink: Roux at The Landau has a fantastic selection of rare wines and superb seasonal dishes; Artesian is a rather indulgent cocktail bar; Palm Court is perfect for breakfast (with the most amazing yoghurt I have ever tasted) as well as the daily high tea, using the venue's own Wedgwood china.
The bed: A Super King - I couldn't see from one end to the other, and it was incredibly comfortable. Whoever was making it kept leaving me little pink macarons and platters of fresh fruit.
The view: Out over the rooftops of London.
Bathroom: Marble, large with doors separating the lavatory and shower from the bath and vanity.
Room service: After a long day at the V&A museum I didn't feel like venturing out so I ordered a club sandwich and fries. It wasn't cheap, but I wouldn't be at the Langham if that's what I was after.
Value for money: Certainly, though if you could afford this, why not go bigger?
Facilities: Along with complimentary clothes-pressing and access to the Health and Wellness Centre and Chuan Spa with its 16m-long swimming pool, Langham Club Rooms allow you access to the Langham Club Lounge, a space for members to enjoy all-day refreshments and early evening drinks and canapes, plus use of the Langham Club boardroom and the Langham Club Lounge computers.
Perfect for: A stay during a busy work week in London. My ornate room and its equally ornate desk were perfect for composing articles while I was in the Northern Hemisphere.
Would I return? At the drop of a hat.
