What was your greatest holiday? At the risk of sounding like a complete tool, I was lucky enough to take in France, the US, Italy, Britain, and other amazing places when I worked in advertising, but yes, here it comes: there's no place like here. Apart from that, a road trip a few years back down Sydney's South Coast with someone special in a shitty old BMW springs to mind. Probably because it reminded me of the Wairarapa. Especially a town called Berry - cheesy, touristy and I loved every minute.
And the worst? Whangarei. Not Whangarei's fault. Long story.
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing? Finding the best pub and "researching" beer. Always working.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be? Great Barrier Island.
How about for a dream holiday internationally? Great Barrier Island.
What's the dumbest thing you've done when travelling? Once, I started walking to my favourite coffee cart in Beach Haven, Auckland and realised I was in Paddington, Sydney. I also signed an autograph in Sydney Airport for someone who thought I was Taika Waititi.
Aisle seat or window seat? Window. Gives me something to look out when people want to chat.
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given? I'm always dishing out travel tips, I should shut up and listen for once. I might learn something. Speaking of which, here's a tip: seek out the best beer. There, you will find the best people and the best places.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling? Worst was a taco in Santa Monica. It fed about five of us and there was enough left over for the NFL team at the next table. Best was Glass Brasserie in Sydney. Don't know if that Luke Mangan dude was there back then but it was really, really good.
What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip? My girlfriend.
Favourite airport to land at? Wellington. Yeeeeehaaa!
What's the next trip you've got planned?
Fiji for my girlfriend's surprise 40th. Oh crap, I just ruined it ...
