This year's Daffodil Day in Wanganui was "the best Daffodil Day ever".
Cancer Society of Wanganui manager Simon Aitken said they were still counting the money collected over Friday and Saturday, but they expected to have about $10,000 more than last year's $46,000.
"We are up to $46,000 for the appeal and we have some counting to do," he said.
A barbecue was held on Friday in Majestic Square and stalls were placed around Wanganui for donations to be made.
Volunteers also headed down to the Saturday markets to collect donations from those who couldn't make it on Friday.
"The sun was shining and it really felt like the start of the season of hope with so many people giving donations with loved ones in mind - we felt very blessed to receive so much support," Mr Aitken said.
"People were really receptive down at the markets, the ladies had an amazing time."
He said passersby would often stop to talk to volunteers about a loved-one of theirs who had had cancer.
He wanted to thank the "gigantic" team of 180 volunteers who helped out over the weekend.
"The highlight of the weekend was probably just how the volunteers all came together to help us. The volunteers just make it."
He wanted to give a "big thank you" to Wanganui and the surroundings towns of Marton, Mangaweka, Taihape, Ohakune and Raetihi and all the people from the country who supported the Cancer Society on Friday and Saturday.
