It was Ronald Reagan who believed there is nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.
And Riding for the Disabled got a special 40th birthday present this month to help keep proving the former US President's theory.
A concert by Wanganui's Lyric Singers netted $400 for the charity that enables anyone with a disability to enjoy the therapeutic value of horse riding, or just being around horses.
The concert on November 8 at Christ Church in Wicksteed St featured mezzo-soprano Hayley Sellars and 12-year-old violinist Shontae Arthur who "played brilliantly", said Lyric Singers president Clive Sullivan.
He said each year the group chose an organisation to support and, this year, the choir was pleased to support RDA, particularly as it was its 40th anniversary.
"The concert theme was Riding High and it raised much needed funds as well as raising the public's general perception of RDA and the need for continued support."
Congratulations has also been received from Roslein Wilkes, who is on RDA's National Training Advisory Board and a member of the Special Olympics Global Resource team.
She said the work that went into RDA was appreciated.
"A huge debt of gratitude must go to the people and our wonderful horses who have given of their best over 40 years.
"Keep up the good work."
Wanganui RDA vice-president Louise Watling said the money would be used for new tack for the horses.
She was thankful. "We rely on donations. We are very grateful for anything we get."
