Volunteers have been flat out at the Koha Shed depot at Wanganui East all week, accepting and sorting donations coming in to help people affected by flood damage.
Co-ordinator Sherron Sunnex said it had been a busy week of storing, sorting and dispatching everything.
"We are the first port of call to help people and we are able to help them with their immediate needs.
"It doesn't matter if they have insurance or not because all of that takes time. We give them what they need right now - and when they don't need the things any more they can give them back."
Ms Sunnex said business people, schools, community groups and individuals had all been very generous and families in need had been able to get emergency food, clothing and furniture delivered to their homes.
Ms Sunnex said a group from Harcourts in Wellington had been up to help and furniture was being sent down from Auckland.
There had also been food donations from Countdown and Laugesens, lunch for volunteers from Subway, and knitting from the Gonville library group.
Shed volunteers had been putting in 12 to 14-hour days and were getting exhausted, so extra help would be welcome. The Love and Learn Care and Education centre next door to the shed in Harakeke St has been offering free childcare for volunteers and the service will be available for volunteers during the school holidays on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 3pm.
