The Government has announced $2.6 million extra for flood work - now the gods just have to make the rain stop.
The funding is earmarked for rural infrastructure repair, continued employment of a rural recovery co-ordinator, more information, advice and health support for farming communities and additional Enhanced Taskforce Green workers.
The extra $2.6 million was announced by the Minister for Primary Industries, Nathan Guy, and Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye.
Ruapehu-Whanganui Rural Support Trust member Brian Doughty said the extra funding would take support packages and systems well into the New Year, which was required.
He said the trust had sought extra funding from the Government, such as an extension of the Taskforce Green programme and employment of a leading hand for the fencing teams to give proper guidance.
He said some of the pressures on farming and rural communities were just showing up now, and financial pressure would continue to grow for some people.
However, the continual rain was holding up recovery.
"The rain's a nuisance. For every 10 weeks of work we plan we are losing two-and-a-half weeks to bad weather and just usual jobs that have to be done on the farm.
"We need good month of really fine weather to get the silt dried up and get back on to it."
