A Castlecliff scrub fire looks to have been caused by embers from a nearby incinerator.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at Balgownie Reserve on the corner of Rogers St and Hinau St on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire covered about 100m by 30m and took about 30 minutes to bring under control. High winds spread the smoke across parts of Castlecliff and Gonville, towards the CBD.
Fire risk management officer Bob Wills-Rawlings said there was a possibility the fire was caused when embers from an incinerator in a neighbouring section blew into the vegatation.
- Firefighters were called to the scene about 3.20pm and found the blaze was spreading across a patch of regenerating bush on the site of an old rubbish dump.
-Firefighters were called out to Caffray Ave in Aramoho on Thursday when an old microwave gave up "in a big flash of glory".
"The microwave just appeared to have has some sort of electrical arc problem," Senior Station Officer Doug Bennett said.
"It was like one of those first generation microwaves ... it went 'pop, bang, I'm stopping working now'." He said the microwave, believed to be about 30 years old, "hadn't really burnt" but had some scorching.
"It just gave up in a big flash of glory."
