Nga Tawa Diocesan School has had an action-packed year starting with swimming championships and inter-house swimming (including synchronised swimming) and the Nga Tawa grand fete in February.
There was the NZISS rowing champs and then NZSS Maadi Cup at Lake Karapiro and a 10-week Thai student exchange which saw 15 students stay at Nga Tawa.
Founders Day was celebrated on March 10, marking the school's 124th anniversary.
School camps and equestrian events were interspersed with Anzac commemorations, the Year 13 school ball in June and a field trip to Queenstown in September.
Year 10 students are on camp this week while the Year 9 students are having a special character week.
The students will have a carol service in the chapel on December 10 before a final chapel service and graduation dinner on December 11.
The school will be holding its annual prizegiving on December 11.
It has not yet named the 2015 dux but we caught up with head girl Ella Proude and deputy Samantha Rollinson to share some of their memories and plans with the Wanganui Chronicle.
We wish Ella, Sam and all the Nga Tawa students well for their exams and futures.
-What are the highlights of your high school years?
Working with so many people including Sam and leading my year group. I was fortunate enough to have a very supportive and close Year 13 group which made my job much easier. One special moment I will always remember was at the Year 13 ball where I could sit back and relax with the year and enjoy all our hard work. It was a great night that was enjoyed by all. - Ella Proude
Making friends that you become very close with and all the memories that I have had with them especially in boarding. - Samantha Rollinson
-What are your plans for 2016?
I have applied to go to CPIT (Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology) and do broadcast journalism but it is a very competitive course so if that fails I plan to go to Canterbury and do media and communications minoring in psychology, sociology and anthropology. - Ella Proude
My plans are to go to Victoria University and study a bachelor of architecture. - Samantha Rollinson
-What would you say to a 2016 Year 9 student?
I would say to enjoy every second at high school. It feels like yesterday that I was a young Year 9 but the years quickly fly by and now I am writing our graduation speech. Make lots of friends and cherish all the special moments you have with them because before you know it you will graduating. - Ella Proude
Have fun and make the most of the time you have in high school. Make an effort to be with your friends and make memories. - Samantha Rollinson
-Anything else?
I would recommend applying for a leadership position in the future to any student at a high school. It is extremely rewarding and although a challenge at times it aids you with great skills that you can apply in the future. - Ella Proude
Nga Tawa has been a great place for me to be able to do this, boarding is a completely different experience which I think has allowed me to become much more independent and learn great inter-personal skills, which I will find very useful in future years to come. - Samantha Rollinson
