A disqualified driver who was one day away from being eligible to apply for his driver licence was caught driving on Eastown Road on November 16.
Sean Chapman admitted charges of disqualified driving, failing to stop for police and reckless driving in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Prosecuting Sergeant Steve Butler said police tried to pull Chapman over but he accelerated away and a pursuit followed. Chapman reached speeds of 90km/h through suburban Whanganui East.
Chapman represented himself and said he had made a stupid mistake.
Judge Dugald Matheson said Chapman put himself and others at risk and that his speeds through built-up areas "must raise concerns for community safety".
Chapman was jailed for six weeks and disqualified from driving for nine months.
