Ten minutes of meditation before work may be the difference between a bad hair day and a good one.
That is the view of Nityajyoti and Tejomani who are both Buddhists ordained in the Triratna Buddhist Community and living in Whanganui.
Every Wednesday from 5.45pm to 7.30pm the pair will be hosting a relaxed Triratna Buddhist evening to demonstrate how the practice can be implemented into everyday life.
"We want to offer meditation and explore Buddhist teachings in a way that allows people to question and make the practice applicable to people's lives." Nityajyoti said.
"We want to make it interactive and an ongoing friends night."
Tejomani said the Triratna Buddhist order was a Western adaptation that keeps Buddhist traditions but is also focused on collaborating its practices with contemporary ideas and Western philosophy.
Tejomani was part of the Auckland Triratna Buddhist Community where she was teaching courses on retreats. She moved to Whanganui in 2011.
"Coming to Whanganui has been a huge change for me," she said.
"In Auckland I was always surrounded by other Buddhists and interacting on retreats. Now I am a solo householder living in a completely different life style.
"It has really helped me broaden and deepen my experience," she said.
