When she realised there would be no greyhound racing at the Hatrick Raceway next Friday night manager Erin Woods decided to hold a charity event instead.
It's to be The Blooming Great Night, a fundraiser for Whanganui's Cancer Society, she decided.
The fundraiser will add to the approximately $31,000 raised by March 11's Relay for Life, Cancer Society fundraising co-ordinator Annette Cox said.
She's now devising a series of mental and physical challenges for the teams to compete in.
"Each round will be something completely different," she said.
The teams of up to eight people will need to think creatively and solve problems. They will also get to have some fun.
"The basic idea is to go out with friends and have a bit of fun."
As well as the challenges, team members will be in to win prizes in a continuous raffle, and Greyhound Racing New Zealand has contributed $1000 of prize money.
The raceway is contributing the venue, the supper, raffle items and the work of its staff.
Tickets can be bought at either the Cancer Society office or the raceway, and there will be no door sales. They cost $30 each, with the money going straight to the society.
