One in five electric blankets seen by the Whanganui Fire Service during last year's electric blanket check were unsafe.
Now you can find out if your electric blanket is safe with the fire service's free electric blanket tests.
You can take your electric blanket to the Whanganui fire station, Maria Place extension (next to the Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre), between 9am and 3pm on Wednesday, May 24. And while you're there you can find out more about fire safety in your home.
If you can't make it to the fire station at that time there are other drop-off times and locations:
+Whanganui East police station, 69 Moana St - drop off your blanket between 10am and 12 noon on Tuesday, May 23, and pick it up between 9am and 1pm on Friday, May 26;
+Citizens Advice Bureau, 120 Guyton St - drop off your blanket between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday, May 23, and pick it up between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Thursday, May 25 or Friday, May 26;
Castlecliff Community Trust (Castlecliff School, Polson St - drop off your blanket between 8.30am and 5pm on Tuesday, May 23, and pick it up between 8.30am and 5pm on Thursday, May 25 or Friday, May 26.
Blankets will not be accepted outside these hours.
